Tate Modern

The Tate Modern is the national gallery of international modern and contemporary art from the 1900's onwards.

The Museum is housed in the Bankside Power Station which was designed by Sir Giles Gilbert Scott,(better known for designing the red telephone box. The power station was closed in 1981 due to high oil prices, but later reopened as the Tate modern in May 2000.

Currently there is a new development which is hoping to transform Tate Modern. An iconic new building will added at the south of the existing gallery.  this new building will create more spaces for displaying the huge collection. The Tate collection is so huge, there is only ever 10% of the collection on display across all four museums. However the entire Tate Collection is available online.

Opening Times:

Sunday to Thursday: 10am - 6pm
Friday and Saturday: 10am - 10pm
Tate Modern is closed on the 24th, 25th and 26th December each year.

Tickets:

Admission to the Museum is free.  But tickets are required for temporary exhibitions.
